I have three of these B&O Locomotives and all have the brush gear on the right side. It does appear that the motor unit has been dismantled and reassembled incorrectly. This is very easy to do with the dc version of this model, as there are no wire connections to lights or other ancillary systems. What was again interesting was that the inner connecting rods were missing. It is my conclusion on this issue as previously discussed that the “Green Series” sold with three wagons as a set, did not have the main wheel connected. This locomotive must have been originally in a set and subsequently sold on singly. It is possible also that the motor gearing was different to that of the later models to slow the Locomotive down. It was difficult to determine from the eBay photo whether the gears were course or fine type. I have both types of motors in my possession and did not realise there was any difference until I received a spare motor from Giorgio Tanzi. This took me by surprise as I thought that the motors for the B&O Locomotive could be exchanged for those on the E626, with the different wheels of course. Please see attachment showing the different sprockets used. Also see Rivarossi 1949 catalogue pages 9&10 showing brush gear on left and right hand side, although this may have been photographic licence for cataloguing purposes, who knows?
